What a Difference a Mile Makes LogoIn July of 2021 the GFWC North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club and its Domestic Violence Committee were brainstorming about how to raise funds for their Domestic Violence Victims Fund.  Board Member and Vice President Connie Lawson suggested we have a Walk Event for Domestic Violence Victims Needs in our community.

Linda George Sweatt and Bonnie Obrien, Chairperson and Co-Chair of the Domestic Violence Committee, set about to create a walk event on October 16th, 2021.

Our committee, board members, volunteers and the North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club presented the first “What a Difference a Mile Makes” walk, an event for domestic violence victims in our community. The event was held at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex with many local sponsors from the North Myrtle Beach Community participating.

With this group’s leadership, we coordinated local politicians and speakers, entertainment, celebrity DJ’s, our police and fire department, food trucks, entertainment characters, and a photo booth to come to the walk. We also had a complimentary drawing of beautiful baskets and gorgeous purple pumpkins.  Children and pets were welcomed and activities were provided for the kids.  Because of the overwhelming support from the community, we exceeded our expectations. The walk was a huge success for its first year and folks are anticipating another one in 2022.

We owe thanks to many for making this event possible, especially, our President Debbie Ritter, VP Connie Holston, VP Connie Lawson, the NMBWC Board of Directors, the City of North Myrtle Beach  and to our generous sponsors and our caring community.

Members Jeri McCumbee, Dolly McDermott, Sandy Young, Sandy Walter, Sandra Heighngton, Nina Kirby, came out to set up on Friday night and came to volunteer for the walk on Saturday.  The GFWC North Myrtle Beach Womans Club is truly amazing.

This year we have been working on projects to meet the needs of victims and have been able to help with food, gas, counseling, education and awareness.

Our next annual walk event will be held on Saturday, October 15th, 2022 at 10:00 AM at The North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.

Volunteers will soon be working in our community offering opportunities to support this event and the fight to eradicate domestic violence in our area.

Thank You NORTH MYRTLE BEACH See you at the “What a Difference a Mile Makes” Walk Event for Domestic Violence Victims on October 15th!
